  1. 國際初中科學奧林匹克2024–香港選拔賽是由教育局、香港資優教育學苑及香港數理教育學會聯合主辦的比賽。旨在識別有科學天賦的初中學生,參加進階科學知識培訓課程。

The International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO) – Hong Kong Screening is co-organised by Education Bureau (EDB), the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE), Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education (HKASME).. The screening aims at identifying scientifically gifted students at junior secondary levels for training in advanced science subject knowledge.





  1. 「卓越學生領袖選舉」:卓越學員需參與一系列培訓及體驗式學習,包括:「名人全接觸」分享會、「香港管治現況分析與未來發展」專題研討會、「辯論技巧」工作坊、「模擬特首選舉論壇」、卓越學員成果分享會以及撰寫《個人成長報告》(個人)等,提升「卓越學員」的多元能力及領袖素質。


The Eighth Outstanding Student Leader Selection organized by The Arete. The election aims to develop students’ leadership qualities through a series of leadership training programmes, including policy analysis workshops, seminars and sharing sessions about the opportunities in Hong Kong as well as the Mock Chief Executive Election Forum.

5A Leung Chun Yu


I am Leung Chun Yu from Class 5A. I am honored to be able to participate in the summer gifted program of the Chinese University and I am grateful for the school's financial support. The course I chose was Applied Biochemistry. One of the reasons why I chose this course is that I study biology, and hope that the knowledge gained from it would be helpful to me. The second reason is that I am also interested in medicine.


In the course, the aspects of biochemistry mentioned are broad and there are mainly 4 topics covered. The first topic is basic biochemistry, which summarizes human DNA, connective tissues, how cells die, and different organs and systems. These are closely related to what I learn in biology, but the details are more than those in the textbook. The second topic is cancer. The content includes why cancer cells form, how they metastasise, and the treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. The third one is forensic biochemistry, which is also the most interesting topic to me. It talks about the process of investigating a death scene, how to conduct toxicology, alcohol and drug testing and collecting DNA fingerprints, as well as analyzing the cause of death. The fourth topic is drugs for medicine, which explains how drugs treat different diseases.


The biggest difficulty I encountered during the course was that the notes were in English, but I studied biology in Chinese in school. Therefore, there were things I didn’t understand in class. Also, the course was called “Applied Biochemistry,” and some chemistry knowledge was necessary. Since I haven’t studied chemistry, I had some difficulty learning it. However, I would check back the words I didn’t know when I got home, and I also listened attentively to the instructor when I was in class. Fortunately, he taught in Cantonese and sometimes his humor livened up the classroom atmosphere, so the class was not too heavy.


I think this course has broadened my horizons. Some of the content is not included school (such as forensic medicine) or has not been taught yet. I believe that what I learned in the course will be helpful to me in the future.



5A Ng Hiu Sum


My name is Ng Hiu Sum. I joined the Summer Program entitled “Introduction to Criminal Psychology”. The main reason why I joined this course was I took part in “Introduction to Psychology” last year. I have got some basic concepts of psychology, so I was interested in further enriching my knowledge of psychology.


From this course, I learnt 5 different types of criminal acts: theft and deception, arson and bombing, sexual assaults, murder/homicide. I also understood that all common criminal behaviors can be explained by biological theory, personality theory, psychoanalytic theory, social learning theory, cognitive theory, and differential association theory. These theories are the basic concepts of criminal psychology.


I think that psychology is fun and it helps me to understand myself. If I have the chance to join the programme again, I may take part in “Looking into Abnormal Psychology”.



4A Wan Hoi Chung


Hello everyone. I am Wan Hoi Chung Michael from Class 4A. I have joined the Summer Program for the Gifted & Talented of the Chinese University of Hong Kong for three years. Last summer, I joined an online course called “Introduction to Criminal Psychology”. This course allows me to know more about psychological tendencies related to criminal behaviors. I learned about some common perceptions of criminal acts like theft, violence, serial homicide…etc. Also, I got to know that biological theories, personality theories, social learning theories are some theories that explain for unlawful acts. This course also helps me to analyze and to explain for minor confusions encountered in our daily life. I learned that the stages of moral development, genetics and the environment equally affect one’s personality. It was fun to know that Id, ego and superego control our behaviours. This course is interesting and inspiring. If you have the opportunity to join the Program for the Gifted & Talented, give it a try!
